Now myself also coming from the instinctual paranoia of drugs with a nine page warning label in the magazine ad, I think Maher has in fact slipped the rails of Rational-Trans Lines.

Now in medieval Europe it wouldn't have matter how tough your immune system if you live in those conditions you're going to catch something. Your immune system can handle viruses or some bactera, but throw a pathegenic protist [single cell organisms with a nucleus] into your body and it's like ICBM's throw Jr.'s Scarecrow Defense Initiative. It'll get through no matter what.

There are also many pathogentic bacteria and viruses that can befuddle the immune system, but that's not the point of this thread.

Some drugs are necessary. I haven't swallowed a pill in this decade stronger than a vitamin [and that was over three years ago]. I didn't even take the pain medication my denist prescriped for me after a root canal. But I know at some point I may well need soem sort of drug or other orally introduced medication in order to treat a condition, maybe even to survive.

There's a lot of people on here who right now take prescription drugs because THEY HAVE TO! They don't like it, but they do it because it's their ass! That's how it is for them whether they like it or not.

Everyone on here [who doesn't have me on ignore ] has read my bitching about Big Pharma, a member of the Axis of K-Street. That's because they dream up shit like "Restless Leg Syndrom" about the same time they defecate out- not a cure for it, but the treatment so that you won't know you have it. You're driving, eating and gambling in your sleep, but at least your legs know to shut the fuck up when you sit your ass down.

But drugs are also why we're not catching polio. It's why the flu doesn't kill 20,000,000 people [yeah, count them zeros] like it did after World War One.

In the 18th century doctors wanted to protect people from one of various poxes by smearing a string onto an open sore of that same or similar pox then tie it to a needle and run the whole thing through the patient's skin. And of course they were accused of plotting to murder people with their knowledge in order to do... whatever with the bodies.

I think this anti-medical crowd from PETA [let's not kid ourselves here] want to rail against everything that cures or treats. As opposed to animal testing and in favor of limiting the power of drug companies or what they can market, we can't throw the baby out with the bath water [another of those expressions from disease ridden medievalism].

And antibiotics aren't always bad. If used correctly and in moderation it does in fact save millions of lives every year. We shouldn't dump it into our livestock by the shovel full and we also don't need the cows hopped up on the same shit Barry Bonds shoots into his arm. But guess what. Most hormones don't remain chemically intact after passing through the digestive tract. It might degrade into something that is adverse to your health to some degree or another, but it's not like it'll incorporate into your DNA and turn you into some Marvel Comics mutant supervillian.

We need moderation when advocating for drugs, medical procedures or hormones use in people or our food. But exercising a little sense when condemning their use is also called for.
