If you subtract all the modern wonders of vitamins and supplements, a vegetarian would die out due to not getting enough of the correct nutrients, similar to how if you don't eat citric or an alternative that has vitamin C, you'd die of scurvy. Yes, life sucks in how animals are cruelly harvested for our consumption, but it's necessary evil for the survival of our species. Due to no recent population culling (World War and real genocide) we have a lot of mouths to feed and you can't say vegetables will keep them all happy. Also not everyone has access to ways to replace where they can get the proteins or other nutrients from various meat products. And things like fish have proven to give the best longevity. (A major hint as to why the Japanese outlive us all) .

I eat eggs, dairy and butter. I should be getting quite a bit of protein and vitamins from them.
