I was thinking about this one... i'd say this psychiatrist person is decidedly incorrect. The real cause is an incapability complex, likely stemming from over-protective parents. Which is why, someone like me, who cursed and watched porn as a child, is all for independence.
The feelings of incapability would almost definitely lead to a want for assistance, like the assistance the children received from their parents (because the person is afraid to function without this kind of assistance).
