Computer RAM(ming speed) question

im looking to upgrade my RAM the manual for my motherboard says it can support 1 gig (2x512) at a maximum speed of 2700...

okay so the only ram available in town says its can support both 3200 and 2700. (400/333).

I understand that the particular ram in question will operate at 3200 and practically everything beneath 3200 - 400

My compu tech noob question is:

will that ram (3200/2700) work at all on a system that can only support (push?) 2700 at the most...?
