It's the whole gas thing. It sucks(ed) now with the 2500, but what if it got worse?

We're not poor, but it was definitely a consideration that's how uncertain the feelings are for us about the "future" of things in this country and it's energy problems. Otherwise I might have bought one of those "mini-trucks".

Anyway.......thanks for not telling me I'm an idiot for getting up one morning and buying a new vehicle in about 4 hours.

I've got an 05 Ram 2500. I bought it new, below cost...Dad's employee discount. I was forced to get the 3/4 ton, as the bastards wouldn't build me a 1/2 ton w/a standard tranny back then.

It's a nice truck, nicely equipped. Rides a little like a pig, and the hemi gives me 15mpg, only if I behave...which means I get around 12.

I too decided a few years ago to buy a car, to alleviate the gas bill, and to keep the miles off the truck. I got a very used VW Jetta for a couple of grand. 35 mpg, but I hadn't been in a car...let alone a tunafish can, in decades. Wierd feeling.

I made some money this past winter, and it was time to get rid of the old Jetta. I did virtually the same as you...checked prices on line, and went and bought the new Jetta a day or two later. The manager wasn't too happy w/me, cause I got it for less than he wanted to sell it for.

Same deal...they don't even build the Jetta stripped anymore. Nice car...no options added. Killer stereo...does anything else matter?

I can't do without the truck, though. I have considered trading it on a new 1/2 ton, but there are (rare) times when I need the extra suspension. I'll hold off on the truck, although I get them at below cost any time I want. This economy scares me, so I'll play it safe, for now.

Enjoy the new ride.
