There were many peaceful protests through-out Paris that day, too.
The riot police (CRS) dispersed the pro-Tibet crowd in front of the National Assembly (parliament) leaving the Chinese supporters. But representatives of all political parties came out of the Chamber to the top of the walls of the Nat Assem showing suppport for the Tibetian supporters with flags, banners, etc.
I have said many times, show support for whatever cause you like, but do it peacefully.

This all reminds me of the protests against the WTO when the protestors destroyed the mom and pop stores on the streets. The message always gets lost in the violence.
