Let's see POHP; we have a health care crisis, a social security crisis, an Iraq and Middle East crisis, a recession crisis, a $10 trillion debt crisis, an education crisis, an illegal drug crisis, a crumbling infrastructure crisis, an immigration crisis, a poverty crisis, and soon we'll have a global climate and McCain crisis. I'd say things have been quarter-assed at best, and if we can't do better than our current situation, then we might as well fold the tent...

Superb. This is how to post to me, clear and concise with no 'f-u POHPs'!
I do agree with you, just on a differing path. It's not Americans, IMO.
We are but animals. Animals basically want to Eat, find/keep shelter, have sex, and even play. Most animals, and most peoples of the earth, struggle at the first three with hopes of attaining the fourth.
A pride of Lions, if you place Lion sized doggie-igloos with food outside and a willing Lioness, would become fat and lazy - never to roam their territory.
Americans gained undue world economic clout thru our distance, population, natural resources, and post WWII infrastructure (manpowr, new womanpower, factories, RRs, and roads that Europe/Asia didn't have) to become that lazy pride of Lions. We are hoist to the petard of our successes.
Kinda hard to convince the masses, when they're fat and happy. Food shortages loose their impact when the aisle is full at the store. That many aren't so fat and happy is not impacting the rest as we're a disjointed and disconnected populace. The 'haves' have taken over the entire market, MSM, and advertisements.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease, unless you can't hear the squeak over your IPod and new plasma T.V. The U.S. representative system has been hijacked by Americas hierarchy, it's 'royalty' who avow that we can eat cake. All the things you've said are correct, but everything isn't everything. It's an illusion, exampled by the 53% of eligible voters who abstain.
America has been too successful for it's own eventual good. It will take calamity (such as a depression) to wake the masses. Individuals are easy, it's the mob mentality that's a bitch.
