The gas tax holiday is a stupid idea and pandering in its purest and most disgusting form. Lower the gas tax and people will buy more gas, the price wont move much at all. It is all about supply and demand, lower the price and there will be more demand and prices will shoot up to the same level as with the tax. Prices typically go up much faster than they fall so expect a huge jump in price when the "tax holiday" ends. I don't know about you but the roads and highways around here are horrible and need alot of maintenance. To be perfectly honest, the gas tax is one of the few taxes that really fits. The more gas you use typically, the more wear and tear you put on our roads and highways and therefore pay more in gas tax to help repair those same roads. It also serves to encourage people to conserve more and to buy more gas friendly vehicles. Remember the gas crisis of the 70's when people went from driving these monstorous vehicles to driving compacts? Whatever happened to that?
