A little parody I once wrote about the 'truth'...
A Few Good Men (slightly altered by OldManOnFire)
written by Aaron Sorkin
Idiot-Bush: You want answers?
American Public: I think we're entitled to them.
Idiot-Bush: You want answers?
American Public: We want the truth!
Idiot-Bush: You can't handle the truth! People, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Iraqis and you curse the Army/Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Iraqi's deaths, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, patriotism, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to people who rise and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post.
Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

I think in many cases people don't want to know the truth or the facts. Let someone else deal with them or maybe they will simply go away. Many people don't have attention spans for boring details and facts and now require more graphic stimulation and less dialogue. I've always been fascinated about astronomy and physics and why we don't have shows on TV today like Cosmos? Why don't news stations spend any time on science, health, technology, medicine? Sure you can find this stuff on certain channels or books, etc., but they are sucking hind teat in terms of viewership and advertising dollars. The networks go where our intelligence goes, and in that place you will probably not find many facts, data, truths, or details...
Tabloid mentality and the dumbing of America...
