Are you, like me, a certified Alcohol and drug abuse counselor (
U. of Illinois at Chicago, 1971)?
Most violent abusers are drug or alcohol users. Alcohol users drink at home, though most times they also meet many of their victims at bars; hell, you knew that.
Drug users on the other hand, use drugs anyplace. You knew that too.

Not in this case. This person hasn't seen or gone through anything traumatic like that

No way in hell you or anyone can make that assertion with such certainty simply because the person did not say or infer such.
The OP is delberately vauge in critical details.
But what a "victim" of prior abuse might or might not say can only be determined by counceling sessions.
Often you may be 10-20 sessions into a client before you can determine whether abuse has happened, be it violence, sexual, parental abuse. and that knowledge has to be determined by a clinician.
That she would mention the
lack of abuse speaks volumes for prior incidents.
