Who's we? I know the risks and I'm not even a geneticist. The CDC has a list of rules for genetically engineered organisms and their confinement from natural populations.

Now the moral thing comes in/hits home when it is not just plants & the risks about fucking up unknown insects & such... ALthough I believe that is certainly an issue both moral & ethical........... & again whose consequences may not be known for some time...
A few thoughts/playing GOD
Example that: Designer babies anyone-Say Monsanto can go in & fix a genetic disorder for .XXX.......... What parent wouldn't want that....???

The apeman has been playing god for two million years [oldest traces of a cooking fire]. Every discovery or invention is the work of godlike thinking by we talking apes.
As for designer children we should be so lucky. Not only new children, but those already born could be augmented with genes which code for enzymes that produce valuable amino acids and vitamins. Gene insertion to enhance people's immune systems thus truly defeated malaria, typhus, dysentary and other diseases which kill a major fraction of third world children.

Hopefully you got the money or insurance will pay......(I am sure parents would be willing to pay alot here...) & the long term effect of fixing one thing could fuck up another & not show up for generations....
What if you just want a bigger kid.. A prettier daughter. Or just boys??? Made to order little bouncing balls of perfection........
What if some anti-social parents don't wanna designer kid???? Is the insurance company going to pay to fix their teeth. GLasses or that rare disease junior has that couldA" been fixed/prevented if you only purchased that Monsanto gene.......???
Are the parents unwilling or unable to purchase the Monsanto fix w/ its unknown long term effects going to be condemning their offspring??
Or if there is some problem two, three generations down are they then going to be @ fault for causing these problems????

You're still assuming a negative-only scenario. That's not even realistic.
