Some cats will hold their ground.
We had a cat when I was young that you could hold as long as you wished. If she was laying in the driveway, you'd have to get out of the car to move her.
One day she was asleep on the front porch, with her front paws crossed as a pillow. A german shepard comes up to the porch and snarls loud enough to wake her. As he gets a bit more intimidating, she lashes out with two rapid strokes of each front paw. Shepard runs off with face bleeding. Cat goes back to sleep.
