America wasn't ready to let black people ride on the front of the bus, either. Rosa Parks had other plans.

If it wasn't for black people just getting out there and defying racism, be it open or subtle, the standards never would have changed.

JFK/LBJ never would have fought for Civil Rights if people like Martin Luther King Jr. weren't already out there blazing the trail. It was the black civil rights leaders that reached out to anyone in Washington wiling to listen. Had that demand not been there, we may have never seen the Civil Rights Act.

I can't imagine what would have come out of those brave, black children deciding not to get on that school bus in Alabama. They weren't up against just angry citizens, they were up against the Governor! They got on that bus, and walked right past the angry crowd, undoubtedly shouting racial slurs and even death threats at them. ...They walked right into the building. They did not falter....they did not waver. They stood right up to the terrorist threats. Terrorist threats that in those days came from people holding American flags, unfortunately.

Today, we're saying that a black person can not be president. That America isn't ready. Well, history tells us, then, that there is no better time than now. Remember...a year ago people thought Obama wouldn't even be able to get the Democratic nomination. He handed the opposition their asses, despite that opposition throwing the "kitchen sink" at him, which even included a strategy of racial division, sadly. Now people are saying he can't beat McCain, and we're supposed to buy into that?
