Not when it comes to public policy. They CAN render unto Caesar except when it is in opposition to God's law. You can hate it but it is the basis of their opposition to gay marriage. Christians have the same rights to express and vote for their beliefs as gay people do.
America IS a Christian nation so it will never approve gay marriage. Note that the state legislatures act and place referenda on the ballot to block activist judges. Such will be the case in Cali.
