My friend joined the National Guard in 2000, so he could hardly be blamed for knwoingly jumping headlong into a mess. And because he was being put on fulltime duty anyway, he transferred over to the U.S. Army. He's like most Soldiers in that he doesn't want to go back for yet another tour in the next couple weeks [15 months long] but he also can't imagine letting those in his unit face risk without him.
