"It is very difficult to understand the reasons for the stationing of the anti-missile defence system in Eastern Europe from a military point of view.
Firstly, this system is aimed at warning of a threat to the USA from Iran, however, "it is completely impossible to imagine" that Iran has acquired intercontinental ballistic missiles, which until now "only three countries in the world have created: the USA, the Soviet Union and China".
Secondly, "it is very difficult to imagine that Iranian officials are so insane that they would strike such a blow with one or two missiles, no more, and in response receive a guaranteed blow, completely annihilating Iran for ever," noted the expert.
"It can be supposed that this action is the result of lobbyist efforts of the military-industrial complex and the Pentagon, which will provide them with orders for a very long time, because there they are at present used to living well with huge military budgets, and they don't want to lose them under any circumstances," said Khramchikhin at a press conference organised by RIA Novosti today.
Khramchikhin also added that "any anti-missile defence facilities will automatically become the target of a Russian counter strike, and the means for its infliction will be either an intercontinental ballistic missile from Russian territory or a cruise missile launched from a strategic bomber".
