Hi all,
I really enjoy when college basketball has March Madness this is where some of the best college basketball teams in the nation(USA) have an opportunity to compete against each other competively and eventually have a champion,
while this strategy is not perfect, (and incorporates a bracket system), it's darn close to being objective and very unlikely to be scrutinized negatively
at the very least each year there are but a few people who will not acknowledge that the team that wins the national championship in college basketball is a TRUE CHAMPION
now for my necessary Rant:
and unfortunately in NCAA division 1 college football the way it is designed there is only a PAPER champion
like right now, on the final night of college football, after ALL the college football games have been played,
NO ONE knows which teams will get an opportunity to compete
THAT IS JUST WRONG and many people are unhappy,
and they have every right to be,
right now there is 1 team that is UNDEFEATED in the entire nation and WILL NOT play for the National Championship
FYI: this is important
(this happened last year as well as only one team(Boise State)went undefeated last year in NCAA div1 football and never got an oppotunity to compete in the national championship even though they won and likely played the greatest college football game in the history of college football)
because of the way the BCS is set up and the Political(college politics) bias of it all, good deserving teams do not get the opportunity to compete competively and decide a champion
here's how messed up this poll system is,
there are teams that are ranked 3 and 4th in the nation, and some of them won't advance in this dysfunctional poll system,
doesn't make sense does it?
I mean you would think that if the "number 1 team in the nation" loses, and the "number 2 team in the nation" loses then the 3rd and 4th teams would advance up the poll and take their place,
but not with this messed up poll system,
you would think an UNDEFEATED team would have a chance to compete for the National Championship,(as it is very difficult to go undefeated in Div 1 NCAA football) but not with this system
you would think that the teams that are likely playing the BEST right now like Oklahoma and USC, would have a chance to compete in the National Championship
but NO, instead all the BSC really gives is just BS and a PAPER champion
all other major college sports let the teams compete competively, have playoffs, and eventually a Champion
that's certainly a reasonable request, let the best college football teams in the nation(USA) have an opportunity to compete against each other competively and eventually have a champion,
but not College football,
it's sad, frustrating, biased, and especially ridiculous:

Man! I was typing too fast, and lost a rather lengthy post!
In summation.....There are those who would say that the current system makes each and every game very important. When Mich. lost to Appalachian State to begin the season, it was as if someone shot the President. It was the biggest news for weeks.
Then, one by one, all the powerhouses lost at least one game. Kansas, until last week, was perfect. Some said they had a much easier schedule. If they ran the table, should they play for the championship?
I have been disappointed in the past, with the selections too. One interesting point that I heard the other day...
When the Colts lost to NE, it wasn't as devastating as a loss in college football. We all know that the Colts will make the playoffs, and perhaps avenge that loss. Not so in college ball.
I agree with those who say that these next few (inactive) weeks should be used for some sort of tournament style system, to try and come up with a true champion.
Maybe they don't want to compete for ratings with the NFL, during their end of season race for the top.
You do have to admit that the current system makes every game extremely important, though.
