What is wrong with Bettman is a better question.
He should be promoting this type of thing. God forbid it puts pressure on other owners to make the same gesture of unity amongst their players and families.
And just how would you count it against the cap? Add up the airfares and accommodations?
I suppose if the Hab's owner had offered this type of thing as a benefit for all signing with the team, the cost could be seen that way. But this is "after the fact", and I'm sure it's not mandatory that a player has to provide a family member for transport to Tampa.
Either way, it's just stupid to make an issue out of something like this.
