Like Alabama's own Judge Roy Moore's use of such passages in an State Supreme Court ruling against a gay mother, I'd respect him more if he were sanctifying with blood on the Courthouse steps - at least he'd be consistent, and not just parsing the texts for the parts he needs to promote his hatred.

These others should be removed from any position of authority, if their own personal religious beliefs keep them from doing their jobs properly.
I think your examples are part of the reason for the way many people attack the religious.
When Dubyah was re selected (more about those voting machines, than the religious right), they credited the religious in the country.
That led to the rift between those who think religion is a personal matter, and those who think it should affect national policy.
There are way too many good aspects of all religions, to dismiss those that are followers. The problem will always lie in the way self proclaimed leaders choose to deliver the message.
