I was asked a question the other day that I was almost sure I knew the answer to but after I gave the answer I felt the need to add 'I believe'. The questioner did not say anything about this but it made me think about it for a while. Why did I feel the need to add 'I believe' when I knew my answer was almost certainly true? It had been awhile since I had been asked about the subject and I wasn't completely 100% sure my was answer was true. So in essence I was guessing that my answer was correct and the 'asker of said question' took my answer as fact even though I said 'I believe' not it is fact for sure(like 2+2=4).
My question is why do we humans accept info on belief as fact?
Have we been conditioned to do so?
Yes. Right out of the Womb our Elders feel the need to imprint their belief system(s) onto us.
Is this our brains way of moving on to more important things such as survival?
Yes. I think it's trying to understand our Existance. Being in Awe and Fear of it. Because we do not (either fully or partially) understand why we are here, and why we are aware of BEING.
If religion is a belief, why do we hold it so dear when it is only a guess without verifiable proof?
Conditioning. And Fear of dying.
I just watched a movie on hbo about the dodo bird and ID vs evolution. All the people who backed ID said they could not understand how some things in this world could come to be without a designer. So they believed there must be a designer because there is no other way. (yet they forget we couldn't comprehend earthquakes until recently but that is for another thread

)
Again, why do we humans but so much faith in a belief when it is best an educated guess? (and why do I find this subject so fasinating that I keep coming back to discuss?)
Again, Fear of Death, of dying, of it (our lives) being truly over, and this is all there is. The unwillingness, or inability to accept this, should it be a Fact.
Have a great day all!
