I agree, Sagan always took the low ball number to be conservative. Had he gone high or even middle his figures would have been easier to dismiss. But the fact that he did that and still ended up with millions of civilizations is like WOW!

I heard they found a star almost the size of our sun that was made of crystalline carbon, a frickin DIAMOND! My wife asked, what do you think would happen to the Earth's gravity if you put a diamond that size on it? I had to laugh, I told her with a diamond that size it would be more like putting the Earth on the diamond.
