Snowboarders

This is my other rant for the week. I ski fairly often , at least once a week. I get off the lift, place my poles on, and proceed to ski my ass off. I'm not great, but enjoy ice, bumps, powder and steeps. I get slammed in to a couple of times a season, and it has always been by an out of control boarder, always. Last week I got a 3 inch gash thanks to a boarder coming down a black ,and slammed in to me from the side, out of control, which I got sewed up,
I'm always amazed at how many boarders sit in groups, not riding , often in the middle of the piste (very uncool, and against the skier's code). The percentage of boarders I see who ride in control and carve an edge rather than sliding down the mountain is small, very small. I don't see much fun in that.
My question is this: is this just a local thing at Alyeska, where I ski, or do others experience the same?
