Become...? I'd argue many of them are already there. The only barrier left would be a breakdown of law and order allowing them to express their militarism.
Althgouh, I highly doubt the status of Muhammad within Islam contributed to militarism in any way. The brutality of the crusades and colonialism did that.

Yes, that's the upheaval period. But after which those who remained moderate will be in the ideal position to decide what the religion will become to the rest of the world.
