He began this novel at then end of the 40's! Exactly what research should he have used at the time to better satisfy you nearly 70 years later?

Cave species were known then. I think what he did was tweak his dark seekers to as close to the vampire myth as he could get. Now there are a few rare genetic conditions where sunlight causes skin to blister after a few minutes [the kids have to be in spacesuits to walk outside], but that's a lack of a mechanism entirely different from a simple abino condition.

That's a stretch. Regardless he does a great job of separating the two different species in the book.

Here's the scenario (spoilers)
  • Empty Streets - Left in chaos
  • A virus that man created and became airborne
  • Wipes out nearly the entire population
  • Those infected with the virus feed on people and look half-dead
  • The infected only come out at night
  • One man is the only one known to be immune
  • There is hope for a cure
How is that not similar to every other virus movie that's come out in the last 10 or more years. There are too many to mention.

I should also point out that if there are any dog lovers here, you will be saddened and pissed at this movie.
Thanks for the warning. I got Pissed at a Futurama Episode that was about Fry's Dog, so......

I wasn't pissed about the dog. It's a good Zombie/Vampire type flick. I recommend it.

I don't disagree about the zombie flick part, I just had no idea it was going to be like that though so it was unexpected. If you are not an animal lover then I don't suppose the dog scene will bother you much but anyone who cares about animals will be, that's for sure.

I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, but let's just say it is tragic. I've had dogs since I was born. I'm a huge dog fan.

i grew up with a german sheppard and i tend to stay away from movies where the dog dies just because. and i knew going in the dog dies but was told they did it respectfully.

and i think they did do it respectfully altho i would have preferred the hollywood version where the dog lived but what can you do.

i enjoyed the movie but it wasn't what i expected.

and wait until some of you see will's body. hot.

True, they didn't actually show anything and I think Ouro's term of "tragic" may be a better way of putting it. What they were really trying to show is how Will (whatever his characters name was) was as loyal to the dog as it was to Will and how painful it was for him to have to do that. Still, very troubling to watch.
