The Golden Compass

Has anyone seen "The Golden Compass"? What did you think of it?

Not yet but looking forward to it, I think the reviews are mixed but it's my kind of movie. I recently saw Stardust which seems along the same fantasy line and thought that was great, DeNero was a crackup.

I heard that is was similar to the Potter movies in that they were trying to fit an awful lot into a two hour movie.

I saw it. The special effects were pretty good but it was a movie for 12 year olds.

I keep hearing that it's satanic, or athiest, or anti-jew. What's the deal with that? From the previews I couldn't see how a Harry Potter type movie could be so anti-religion. Is it? Or is that hot air?

I didn't see anything that could be taken that way.

Fromw hat people on here have said it's more about finding your own way [the whole bit about having the compass in your hand instead of asking around for directions].

DeNiro as a camp Pirate... where on earth did he get that idea ?. .

Golden Compass looks like good fun though I certainly do not expect them to translate the genius of storytelling from the novel to the screen. Will watch it with an open mind though.

Yeah, it's probably the whole free will thing that the religious extreme doesn't like. What right does anyone have to follow the lead of anyone/anything that isn't God? Shame on them!
