You can't grow food?
You ARE NOT allowed to steal it!

You can't cook?
You ARE NOT allowed to eat in ANY restaurant w/o paying!

You can't sew?
You ARE NOT allowed to steal clothes!!

You can't play ANY musical instrument or sing?
You ARE NOT, for the same reasons, to STEAL music
... no matter your opinion of the subject!

I can't really argue with that. I was just giving reasons why people feel it's ok to "steal" music.

Overpaid? My nephew and his band played a club in England recently ... there were approximately 200 attendees ... at the end of the evening they (four players total) got under 10 pounds ... approximately $20.00 ... that's about five bucks each for maybe two hours of original music ... not what I'd call overpaid ... and if people don't want to pay for their CDs ... why bother?

They can make it illegal all they want. Until they can stop me from doing it, I will do it. Mind you I still buy music that I would've bought anyways. I mostly download shit I have had 6 copies of (3 vinyl, 2 cassette and a CD) in the past. But I do have a lot of music I've never owned but, honestly would never have bought it to begin with. I don't let people download it from me so the dupping stops at me.
I'm contemplating buying the USB phonograph I saw online. I have a lot of Classic Rock and old Country (real country). I want to preseve the vinyl copy.

If one thing should be "free" and the pursuit of it free from any repercussions, shouldn't it all?

Yeah, why bother. The best musicians are the ones who have a real passion for their music and would write/perform songs regardless if they got paid or not, not to make money and "entertain" - they will inevitably make money because of their talent and drive.

Anyways, I was talking about performers who have made it to the big-time (e.g. Brittany Spears) - not struggling ones.

I get what you're saying but technically you're analogies don't really work. If one person paid for their beer, car or bread and wanted to share it with others, it's legal. So why isn't music?

I also don't consider something available on the internet that's accessible to all, stealing...otherwise we shouldn't have the internet because that's what it's all about - putting and getting information from a central location. As a side note, I never share my stuff on the internet - e.g. ripping a CD and sharing it.

but it's not like the record industry invented the internet...or chose to put those songs on there where people could steal them....

Well, rideshare is. And in Amsterdam, the Govt has set up a bikeshare program. If you need a bike, grab one of the state owned, all-yellow bikes layin' about the place and use it. You can't keep it but, you don't need to. They're everywhere.

Well, the Christians certainly believe so.

Isn't that what "Community" is all about? I'm old enough to remember the advent of public-use Internet. I used a well-known BBS at the time called Compuserve (not the AOLClone it is now). The Internet was approached with the philosophy of Community. Everything on the Internet was openly shared. There was only one spreadsheet program called Visicalc. And the guy who invented it had the idea stolen by corporate raiders (Lotus at the time). Business grabbed the Internet and put a stranglehold on it netizens. I have fought that ever since it reared it's ugly head.

Long Live the EFF!!!!
Down with DRM!!!
