Should MP3 file sharing be illegal?

Just as the title states, at least in the sense of getting the music for free part without permission? Yes or No? Why?

right...but you are not recreating it....and making another physical copy for that person, that they would have had to pay for otherwise....

Do you view anything that can be copied in the same light? Computer software? A book? A painting?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO

for the same reasons that KBlair stated and the fact that I think "artists" are overpaid and we're over charged - this is what happens when you screw consumers over.

I have no real good reason. I just don't want to pay for music

But I do think that they consumers are being screwed over and this is how people rebel. It's ridiculous to have to spend $20+ for one or two songs on an album. But this idea that we can't even copy the tracks onto our PC is outrageous. They have no right telling us what we can and can't put on our PC if it's paid for - if that's the case, then they shouldn't be putting out music.

I don't understand how it's that much different from listening to songs on the radio. I and many others used to record songs from the radio - it wasn't illegal or a big deal then, why is it now? Because they're losing profits.

Well...they do offer you the ability to purchase individual songs now....

I think their stance on not copying it to the computer is only a matter of bidding...they're taking a harsher stance than they want only hoping for a compromise that is closer to what they want.

I'm not sure since I haven't purchased music a very long time, but isn't it half the price for CD single (that's how I remember it)? If yes, an even bigger rip off.

I'm guessing you're against sharing? What's your take?
