Led Zeppelin To Appear At Bonnaroo Festival

holy shit. could it be true?

Report: Zeppelin Planning U.S. Show
The iconic British rock band Led Zeppelin plans to perform at the upcoming Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee.
Tuesday, January 1, 2008

United Press International

The iconic British rock band Led Zeppelin plans to perform at the upcoming Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee, the Daily Mirror reported Monday.

The group performed a triumphant gig at London's O2 arena earlier this month. It marked the first time the surviving members of the band had played a full set together since 1980.

The Bonnaroo festival is set to run June 12-15.

If all goes well, the band may consider going on tour, the Mirror said.

"This is the news that will drive their fans absolutely wild," a source told the newspaper. "(The fans) have been bombarding their Web site to get back together for good, but only Robert Plant wasn't keen to commit. Now he's had a change of heart and if it goes well, they are also talking about touring."

I believe it will be only Robert Plant and Allison Krauss doing their thing. I had the privilege of seeing them preform here when they were recording.

Latest Led Zeppelin rumor: Dave Grohl behind drum kit

The Led Zeppelin tour rumors continue to rage as the New Year begins, and one of the latest is also one of the more bizarre. According to Gigwise.com, Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was a contender to sit behind the kit for the band's reunion show last month at the O2 Arena in London, and could still land the job if Zeppelin does decide to hit the road. A source told the U.K.'s Daily Star, "He was in the running to take over from (late drummer) John Bonham a few years ago and he's still gagging to get on stage with the Zep. While he loves playing with Foo Fighters, Dave would drop anything to be part of Zep's shows."

The man who did play drums for the London show, Bonham's son Jason, told us that he never necessarily felt the job was automatically his: "I had to work at it, really prove that I could do it, and not just say, 'Hey, I'm John Bonham's son, I should be doing it. You've got to earn this, 'cause there's a million drummers out there that would love to cut your throat right now and take over.'"

Grohl attended the December 10th concert, a tribute to late Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun. He praised Bonham's performance to the press and expressed his willingness to have the chance to play with Zeppelin.

Meanwhile, the Mirror.co.uk has reignited rumors that Led Zeppelin will headline this year's Bonnaroo Festival, scheduled for mid-June in Manchester, Tennessee. An alleged source told the site, "(Fans) have been bombarding (Led Zeppelin's) web site to get back together for good but only Robert Plant wasn't keen to commit. Now he's had a change of heart and if it goes well they are also talking about touring."

Bonnaroo organizers denied that Zeppelin would appear at the festival when the rumors first surfaced late last year.

Speculation continues to mount that Zeppelin will launch a full-scale tour later this year, following the massive success and critical acclaim for the London show, which was the band's first performance in 18 years.
