Favourite Film Score

I think I speak for alot of people when I say I have felt strongly on some level everytime I have heard this score. I dunno what Elfman was smoking when he wrote it but it's majestic and worth listening to on it's own. Especially the haunting vocals in the 2nd part, what a joy. Suffice to say the film it went in was equally as touching and remarkable. I cannot seperate the two infact. Beautiful. You guys got any favourite scores from films ?. I need to go find the Pirates one too, EPIC! lol.

I was always in love with the scoring to almost every Six feet under episode.

To this day, the opening theme gives me goose bumps.

If we're talking scores rather then soundtracks (songs in the background ala American Graffiti) or musical scores which don't count because the music is usually already wildly popular or great that's why they're doing a movie with it or about it, (ala West Side Story ,or Hello Dolly, Grease ie).

But strictly scores:

Maurice Jarre Doctor Zhiviago

Ernest Gold: Exodus

Both not the movies but the best sound quality I could find.

I'm really partial to this next one, it's hypnotic.

John Williams has many films he's done scores for , many recognizable that we all know StarWars and Close Encounters to name two. But this could be his crowning achievement.

That's a Score. Or at least that's what I think your trying to describe.

A Soundtrack would be music used for the film. American Graffiti being one of the first to actually do it exclusively and with no score. They told George Lucas he was nuts not to have a score.

Musical Score is the adaptation of music that is also being use as the main theme of the movie. Mostly musicals converted to film, like WestSide Story, or Grease. Also musical films like those of the Golden Age of Film. Examples being Top Hat and the plethora of films by or Busby Berkeley for example. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers type films, where it was a movie but people would just singing. Wizard of OZ is an example we all know.

Basically if some one at some point sings a piece of a melody that's also used in the "background" , it's not a score, it's musical score.
