I think its progressive. It's got so many variations of beat and with the keys and vocals, its hard to label it metal.

they do defy being categorized.....sorta like faith no more. - I think the presence of keys along with a fantastic jazz style drummer does that for both those bands. I may have to get the new Dream Theater- It sounds heavy like the first stuff they did.

Performance-wise, hard to find any band tighter or more talented than DT.
