my husband (who is not usually a history buff and more into sci-fi) is hooked on this show (although i haven't caught much of it). my only impression so far is how far we have fallen from the start of this county to the sorry state we're in now.
i guess i'll wait and catch all the episode "on demand" at a later date, or read the book this summer.

They'll play the first four on Friday if you're interest.

I prefer science fiction over history as well, but in the science fiction I write I like to blur the history so closely into it that one doesn't know where one ends and the other begins.

Well!

They just zipped right on through Washington's two terms. Though, I thought Rufus Sewell's [Alexander Hamilton] various poses did more to encapsulate his character than his dialogue. He's painted as the truly shady character among Washington's cabinet though Adams steers nearer to Hamilton's fewpoint than to Jefferson's.

In Adams' inaugeral address the part of his praise for Washington sends goosebumps of pride.

Then...

There's what's left of the president's house when John and Abigail move in.

I like both. And especialy when the two are blended! I still haven't seen the Doctor Who premier where they jump to Pompeii! (they used the sets from HBO's Rome)

If you catch the 5th episode of John Adams listen to George Washington's whisper to Adams.

A pretty decent close to the series. They- of obvious reasons, skim over much of John Adam's last thirty years, but overall you see in Adams' post presideny life what you need to grasp his personal growth.

I knew the last episode would make me cry. I watched it anyway.

I found it interesting to take note over and over again of the make-up techniques used to show the realisms of the time. I always thought it was funny to watch westerns with heros sporting sparkly white toothpaste commercial teeth. The bad guys always had a couple of filthy brown rotting teeth in otherwise toothless mouths.

The realistic touches to the John Adams series were impressive.

Sadly, I missed most of the series. (I miss On Demand, sigh) I agree on the makeup, sets, and costuming. It was refreshing to see yellowed teeth and a skin blotch here and there. They didn't make the wigs look too modern either.

I don't watch Dr. Who. I just want to see the premier of this season to catch the sets. I want to see what didn't burn down in the fire from last year in Italy.

Are you talking about when George Washington whispered to Adams during his inauguration that he would be happier than Adams now that he is out of the Presidency?

My mind keeps revisiting the method by which they decided who was going to be the vice president.

He who had the most votes was President.
He who had the second most votes was Vice President.

The people chose the Vice President.

Wow, that's a concept.

When did we get screwed out of that one?
