Atonement

I thought this movie was going to be some kind of typical, sappy love story.
Whooaaaa....was I wrong.

This by far is the best, most original, major motion picture (excluding independent and foreign) that I have seen in years.

I cannot get this movie out of my head... I will just have to keep watching it until I am over it.

and for you war history buffs (yes Heretic...you)...there are some memerizing scenes regarding the disaster at Dunkirk

History is interesting until it's done to death [i.e. American Civil War]. I also thing WWI is being overdone, but not quite as bad.

whew..glad this thread got a couple hits. Cause I am ! with this movie...and I typically am unimpressed by most Hollywood films.

I can't quite put my finger on it...but it was almost shot in a horror/suspense type way...but decidedly not a horror film.

I want to give it a huge push because I know people will skip it just thinking it is a war/love story like I did.

BTW..if you loved The Pianist...I know for certain you'll like this.

agreed...unbelieveable that it didn't.

if for nothing else, it should have won for editing and the score.

the editing was so flawless...it was almost musical.

Probably, but it's far from the only one. At the onset of WWI many generals tried to fight the war as if they were still in the 19th century, forgetting the imrpovements in artillery accuracy as well as other innovations like the machine gun. Some weapons brought to bare in WWI were simultaineously ahead of their time yet still to primative to be used effectively. Others just weren't well understood by commanders such that they could be used to their fullest effect though the weapons themselves worked just fine.

However, there's been few new takes on WWI in movies that I'd be compelled to watch another one.

okay, don't yell at me, but...
Dunkirk was WW2 (pre-american invasion) not WW1..(you keep mentioning WW1)

anyway you should watch Atonement....I know it's not sci fi, but I'll bet you'll like it.
