Why wouldn't they want to use a member for this? Bringing in someone from the outside to moderate would promote much more resentment than if a known member does it. How would everyone feel if some new person they know nothing about came in and started policing them? Talk about a quick way to lose your members.

That's the thing though, Eric. Before, the Mods and Admin were an unknown entity. They only came out to play when they felt they were needed to resolve an issue. They didn't cause the issue as some of them now do. Personally, I have nothing against MM. Professionally, either. But when the Admin comes off as an overbearing asshole, that's when problems arise.

I know everyone isn't crazy about mods from the community (Lord knows, I know that), but I was very surprised they decided to do that there. They'd always had this cold, shadowy, authoritative Admin figure who was above questioning, and you just accepted that, cause it's the way it had always been.

It's all so bizarre and confusing: the strange crappy board, all the posts being gone, the long unexplained absense of the board, now all these incidents that seem out of character with the old board's premise and name sake. I just don't get any of it.
other then the admin ~ the board ran itself in many ways. we all added to it, whether it meant fighting the good fight to send the trolls packing or just babbling. on a few occasions a group of individuals who didn't really see things the same way came together as one. i'd give you an example of a protected poster but that probably isn't fair to name names. we also found a way to survive together even when we couldn't stand the other poster because everyone had a right to post there.

i doubt bill maher is even aware of the changes safesearching has made and he probably wouldn't know a crappy looking unfriendly user board if it hit him between the eyes but i do think he would not approve of what it has become re locking a thread and banning a poster for that hillary post. obviously safesearching doesn't care that it looks unprofessional after being down for 2 months and i doubt they have to refund him his money for the downtime.

win/win really.

lol bet i'm banned from there soon for this but :shrugs:

No shit! You're toast.

Nasty and uncalled for as all the other BS about board issues was, I could at least rationalize that it was about maintaining control and not allowing members to question the authority of the staff (cause that Admin always was picky as hell about that), but this? Locking a thread and banning someone for making what is basically a harmless political joke? That's truly shocking. Maybe there's more to it? But even if, say that member turned out to be Rockin or something, why close the thead?

unlike here, bill's is a official board with an official company (safesearching) running it. last i check none of us posters were employed by safesearching or bill maher but hey if they are paying mm then i'll rethink my opposition to any member being "in charge" over there.

it is ~ no, it was a different type of board then this because a celebrity (bill maher) paid for a service and that service has now been pond off to very nice person, make no mistake, bill maher will always draw the more volatile posters and at least safesearching was getting paid to put up with the bullshit.

i dont know why they wont accept constructive criticism. the admin just tells people they are whining. we are the people using the board. if they want members, should they not listen to what we would like, to make the board better?

Doesn't seem like they do want members.

As I recall BM's Admin. always said she "volunteered" her time because she was a Milano family friend. So, I doubt MM's being paid.

My guess (as I previously stated) is that they want more members because attendance has been so low. Now, anyone who goes there will be forced to create an account. Like Lucy said, he's a celebrity and will always have a draw to the site.

its such a load of crap over. they are just using Maher's name to draw people

how many times did newcomers post threads addressed to Bill, not know he would never read them? and how many times did admin let them know it would never happen? i cant think of one time; it was always the other users who told them. i think that was deliberate. let people think they could get a message to BM, in order to bring in more people

False pretense will always be found out. Then they'll lose more members.
