I love Bill but what the hell?

ARE YA KIDDING ME?

In a long, and interesting speech, he characterized what the U.S. and other industrialized nations need to do to combat global warming this way: "We just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren."

At a time that the nation is worried about a recession is that really the characterization his wife would want him making? "Slow down our economy"?

Me thinks he's spent too much time on the phone with Albert these days.

Well now, don't be so quick to judge.

He probably doesn't mean now. He probably means after he gets back to the white house, and fixes the economy again. Like he did after Reagan.

He probably doesn't know how much money there is to be made by innovating and producing clean energies.

That quote was taken out of context. He went on to say that this won't happen and what we should be doing now. Why would you post something so inaccurate?

Righties who get their news from rightwing blogs like World Net Daily often have no idea that they are quoting something that is
inaccurate or dishonest.

You think? Golly, he's made that one of his focuses since he left office, including helping to establish an entire green community here in this country, and trying to convince China when it's economy started to explode to be an innovator of new clean energy instead taking the easy, quick route and becoming an oil based economy like the U.S.

Veronica is correct, the quote is taken completely out of context. What Drudge etc. left off were the paragraphs afterwards. Clinton was putting forward a hypothetical which he then dismissed as not being viable immediately afterwards. It also supports Teri's post about his commitment to green economics.

If you want to hear exactly what Clinton said in his speech it can be found here. It's near the end (about 90% through) of Clinton Speech Pt. 1.

This is what Bill said (my bolding):

But if we did that, you know as well as I do, China and India and Indonesia and Vietnam and Mexico and Brazil and the Ukraine, and all the other countries will never agree to stay poor to save the planet for our grandchildren. The only way we can do this is if we get back in the world’s fight against global warming and prove it is good economics that we will create more jobs to build a sustainable economy that saves the planet for our children and grandchildren. It is the only way it will work.

And guess what? The only places in the world today in rich countries where you have rising wages and declining inequality are places that have generated more jobs than rich countries because they made a commitment we didn’t. They got serious about a clean, efficient, green, independent energy future… If you want that in America, if you want the millions of jobs that will come from it, if you would like to see a new energy trust fund to finance solar energy and wind energy and biomass and responsible bio-fuels and electric hybrid plug-in vehicles that will soon get 100 miles a gallon, if you want every facility in this country to be made maximally energy efficient that will create millions and millions and millions of jobs, vote for her. She’ll give it to you. She’s got the right energy plan.

Because that's where the story is. Regardless of his next thought, to say such a thing, in this political climate, is fuckin stupid.

increasing wages and declining inequality because of what? come one now...I'm willing to bet that those same countries are the same ones that liberalized their markets/trade policies...

Because the right-wing media made it the story, didn't they? Misquoted by Limbaugh, and stolen by Drudge and posted as gospel to the converted. And you know what? Even his hypothetical is correct. Veronica, we shouldn't be pushing China to be the innovator of clean energy, we should want them locked into an oil-based economy, the US should be the innovator in clean renewable energy. that is the future, oil is the past. Unless you want to to be a third-rate nation compared to china in fifty years, if not sooner.

and your cheerleader is really ugly.
