I haven't signed up yet or even browsed it yet, but the NHL season is upon us and that cuts into my surfing/forum posting/gameplaying time.
I'll eventually get around to it. One of the first reasons I began to post at PNut (R.I.P) was because of the people, but also because of the brutally poor performance of the BM board previous to it's first reincarnation. Once that was alleviated I returned and posted lightly in both. PNut being the predecessor to this board in its reason for being, its general population and demeanor. Now with the second reincarnation (it's lengthy revamping being very suspicious , if you ask me) , I haven't found the time to return. Also I'm pretty much apolitical, sort of a sidelines type of non-advocate, I have my opinions but don't feel the need to shout them from the rooftops. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not me. Lately it seems the powers that be, whether that be the media, the politicians themselves, the general populace, corporate America or a combination of all of these things (plus some others), can't provide the tools for voice or change. The forums are a great venting spot and sort of a microcosm moshpit of ideas, where sometimes the cream rises to the top. So they have their place and value. I just feel the participation in them on the political level has become mechanical, and repetitive. We all would like to think because we're internet hounds, that we don't reflect the population. But we do, divided, squabbling, ill informed, and afraid. Afraid of change, afraid of the status quo, afraid of scorn, afraid of of the end that seems to loom in every aspect of what this country attempt to endeavor in. It seems no one from either side of our two party cockfight system of rule is capable of stepping outside the insanity and actually taking an inventory of reality. Politics even in these times is still just soap flakes and full page (now screen) ads. It's manipulation of the mind, not inspiration of the heart. Instead of representing our best intentions and feelings, it projects our fears and insecurities as it's catalyst. It's as broken as any of these boards when they won't function. Worse yet the voices even when working don't make a difference, wait that's the same here too. |

What an great post! And very, tragically true. I agree. It seems to take some kind of monumental event to jar people out of their complacency. 9/11 did that, but instead of gaining a sense of world unity against this kind of violence, it perpetuated violence. I shutter at what will get our collection attention next. |

I even missed The McLaughlin Group this week and can't even remember the last time I let that happen. |
