If everyone lived his life the same way, there would be nothing distinguishing between a tortoise and a hare. We would have only the homogenized Tortare...which kinda looks like Torture, which must be WHY WE THOUGHT TO REINCORPORATE THAT EVER POPULAR METHODOLOGY FROM THE DARK AGES.
I read you impassioned posts and, here and there, you DO land on the Chief Point that there underpins...the new word we have been subliminally ordered to adopt...ALL of our problems a core perversion on either common sense or sense of decency. Just one example...when you rightly harp on how, now matter how bad things are getting, we go right on consuming with a capital C. Like Communism.
That last point will elude you, I suspect, and I further suspect you will be incited...as with numerous exclamation points...to demand what does Communism have to do with our unthinking compliance with Madison Avenue's and Wall Street's beguiling dictates and our Government's relentless demands. Please don't.
In the same way that you berail us for cast blame rather than shouldering MORE responsibility, consider the possibility that not everyone is wrong and that some people ARE smarter than you.
You are free and easy about taking us to task for OUR shortcomings...it's called taking other people's inventories on the Recovery Circuit, a familiarity with which would be both advantageous AND appropriate for an astonishing percent of the American populations. I'd say adult population, but that would be a white wash.
Where was I going?
Ah. Here's a heads up about yourself OldManWavingSparklers. You KNOW things need to be fixed, you cannot claim ignorance. And you steadfastly REFUSE to accept the possibility that others can build a better mousetrap than the one that can be maintained by you, for you, the way you know how.
You'd be willing to do your part, even suck it up a little I bet, if you could be guaranteed in advance of success. It doesn't work that way.
Progressives don't say stupid-ass stuff like 'You're with us or your with the Terrorists.' We are not dangerous bullies. But here's the thing. You're either with us or you're not, you're choice. We're big fans of choice. You're helping, or you're in the way. We're running out of time and, so far, it's the unlovely Politics As Business As Usual Waltz...the stiff monotony of which is now incongruently peppered with Rave Parties.
Progressives also know that the scarlet letters of 'Flip Flopping' are a Rovian construct. Amongst Progressives, amongst Enlightened, people are welcome whenever they feel progressive and enlightened, or both.
It is important to understand that. That amongst the Enlightened, the Progressive, the Populist, the Labor, the Religious, the Anything, there remain more conservative and more liberal impulses. It is not being one or the other that is right or wrong, but the failure to assimilate both. Both is reality. Assimilating reality is an important skill and Americans kinda suck at it. Comes from bein' raised thinkin' you're all that.
Not you, you...but you, generic. Admitting you're wrong is very freeing, incidentally. It takes a fucking lot of pressure off...letting go the fantasy of perfection, admitting powerlessness. It's a precursor to cleaning up your side of the street, and getting on with living. Our time here is not unlimited, and it is being squandered...for millions and millions of Americans, and billions around the globe...that the very very very few shall have the lion's share. All, frankly, would suit them fine.
"They" are exceedingly good at this game...observe how shift our focus OFF the Master Exploiters and ON to the people who are fighting us over the scraps.
The End.

Progressive. now there is a Rorschadt word.
We toss it around without definition. Is Progressive an ideal for ecomonic liberation? It is a term that really means ultr-liberal? I see it time and time again. I stared to use my definition about 10 years ago to descibe my politics - which again is my projection of the word. Progressive=Practicle in my dictionary. I just want the trains to run on time, and be able to pay the tolls. I don't care about idealogy, I want practicle solutions for the myriad of problems facing our society. To me THAT is a truely progressive idea. Get past the rhetoric get past the idelogical blinders ( conservative may even have a good idea now and then - don't automatically dismiss the message because of the messenger). GET DOWN TO IT. pry that baby apart and check the insides. Kick the tires. Will this idea get me from here to there? If it does that's Progress. That's a Progressive Idea. |
