I mean to disabuse Hysterics of the notion that they can intimidate me from talking about Race in America. Progressive, liberal, wingnut, conservative, neoconservative, reactionary...All Y'All...can do the PC Waltz from now til November. The bullshit can and may proceed as planned. The System can and may never change. I/We have so much less control than is convenient to imagine. But I will NOT do that tired, anemic PC Shuffle with you.

Whether it's race, whether it's blatant corruption in government, whether it's sex, I/WE are driving ourselves to drink and distraction fighting amongst ourselves while simultaneously forbidding ourselves to really talk about anything. ******, The Word has been formally banished from, what, existence as a word? It has been explained to me (source, please, or are you making it up?) that a word that appears in English-language dictionaries will be "automatically" deleted in "authorized" programs. THAT'S not creepier than the word itself?

You wanna toss around some accusations? I will contend that there are Holy Rollers amongst us, who jockey for advantages over others of us, who would stand by and let a gang rape proceed so long as no one said the word p-e-n-i-s, v-a-g-i-n-a, or s-e-x. Inhibited, frightened, cowering...but so NEEDY.

I am KNOWN for calling a spade a spade, it's what I do. And because I am NOT a racist, I pull no punches ON ACCOUNT of race, nor on account of being afraid. It WOULD be known, if the most and least passionate People would PAY ATTENTION, that I also deliver so special punches BECAUSE of race.

And I don't mean school-marmish 'sit up straight, turn to page 44 and repeat after me.' Ordinarily, this stuff is just about the last thing that interests me. Running a government? What could be more boring? Unless you spice it up, of course. Then it could be a pretty good gig, for the wrong/right kinda person.

According to something somewhat more reliable than my opinion...in this case, statistics, the class I liked absolute least in four years at university...my life is AT LEAST half over. I have made a lotta mistakes in my time, and I have wasted a lotta time on my mistakes. On top of which, because I lead...how shall I put it?...a rich interior life, I regularly misplace hours here, and weeks there. Suddenly, I seem NEVER to have a sense of generalized caught-up-ness, much less one of on-top-of-it-ive-ness. I've got ground to make up, and new ground to cover, and I've got less time in which to do it. The pressure is ON.

MY livelihood. MY well-being. MY security. WORLD peace. Being afraid of blacks is NOT one of my issues and, in an Al-Anon trumps Co-Dependence kinda way, I am NOT gonna play Enabler.

Lots 'n lots 'n lots of Americans are afraid of blacks. That's why we lock so many of 'em up. It's not a debate I need to have, the proof of my position is as I have witnessed it in my life. Look at the prison population statistics. If there's no agenda-based monkeying around with them, statistics are just as dry and unforgiving and, ironically, as black and white as they could be. Like I said, worst class in FOUR YEARS.

EASILY affordable, reputable bachelor degrees for anyone who wants to earn it. Yes, please, I WILL like to live in a country that provides that for its citizenry. The smartest people on earth...yes, please, those ARE the people amongst whom I'd like to live. That the people with whom I mix it up in MY living of MY life are educated, knowledgeable, competent, efficient, articulate, better read, more relaxed and more interesting, the more interesting and rewarding is MY life. I'm not gonna lie, selfishness remains something of a problem. The good news is, I'm not running for office. What would be my motivation to lie? To help the Republicans? Party of Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity? In 2008? ARE YOU MAD?

Believe me or don't when I declare that Iowa kicked off Bullshit As Usual. Believe me or don't when I suggest that there exists the meaningful-however-incredible possibility of a Republican victory in November. If you maybe don't believe me but sometimes think I make sense even though you kinda can't stand me, I hope you'll become accustomed to popping on to ImplausibleEndeavors once a week or so, often enough not to miss a connecting dot, and I hope you'll send two dollars for a year of my bullshit. You pay more for less, I expect you've noticed. It IS possible to do a good thing.

It is very much harder to do a good thing when your government essentially punishes Good Deeds that are performed outside a State-Sponsored Church...and when so many people, let us be candid, want you to fail enough to not help you. How's THAT for shameless pimping? Just like all those books getting plugged during serious discussions. When are all these people finding time to write books? How can anyone read it all? What good is reading it all, if each author-read-them-fact-withholder is just spinning his own version of events?

Aren't a lot of these authors supposed to be DOING the work, not writing about doing the work? Does no one but me see a wild conflict of interest? It's like writing your own job performance review. Some of these people need to keep their noses to the grindstone...like they oblige non-Elites to do, while government "officials" live the courtly lives of yesteryear-read-that-the-British-Crown. We've got professional historians to write the history books for us, thank you very much.

You do right. They write. You do wrong. They also write.

If racism were NOT an issue, so many people wouldn't be straining their arms patting themselves and one another on the backs for how racist they AREN'T. If racism were no issue, there would be no remark thereon. Stifling remarks is not the same thing as Non-Issue. Methinks we doth protest too much.

My travels and interviews-deemed-worthless-by-that-stalwart-of-Reason-RK77 over this past year only confirm what MORE THAN A HALF-CENTURY OF LIVING IN AMERICA leads me to believe: that it is such an incredible concept that Longtime Racist America will suddenly shoot a black man to the top spot THIS YEAR, as to suspect neo-conservative knavery. The irony-read-that-swiftboat-opportunities of a frontrunning black man named BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, at this time, in this country, is so obvious that a child would see it...were a child, like Huckabee's Jesus, not too smart to go into politics.

For the record, I also think that, THIS YEAR, a woman is an ill-advised gamble...that it's one-name-like-a-star Hillary makes it an even worse gamble.

You pull this off...get us a hopeful, egalitarian, Progressive President into the White House, good on you, I accept. You fuck this up...and neoconservative influences continue to permeate every aspect of my life...I'm outta here. This hostile, overbearing, restrictive, punitive American Dream-More-Like-Fitful-Sleep is UNACCEPTABLE and, for me, unnecessary. Thankfully, the circumstances of my life are such that I am free to flee...note my optimism in presuming "they" will let me. I should think they'd help me pack.

I shall find something modest, somewhere warm...South America maybe, more likely Spain or Portugal. I expect I will very much enjoy being able to scoot around Europe for four or eight years, or the balance of my life. Ireland, alas, the weather...on the other hand, I could cut weather some slack in exchange for NO income tax. I shall write to various governments, and inquire as to my welcome and their terms. I am working on Plan B...the old Exit Strategy that has inexplicably gone out of fashion. How many people can do that, though? How many people are stuck right here, no matter how it plays out?

How many people who are swept up in the ego-ridden First Woman vs. First Black on pay-per-view are truly prepared to lose The Bet if enough voters do not share The Vision? It's so all-or-nothing...a Milestoner or Stay the Course. It's so ridiculous, so reckless, so unnecessary...in other words, so American. It COULD be so American in a great way, a total rejection of abiding historical bias and the collective embrace of a future with true equality of opportunity.

Or not.

The question is, do you feel lucky?

I don't. But then, I've been on a bad run.
