Being Human By Danny Peel

It's 4:33am on August 20th 2006.
I'm just sitting here in Mare's guitar room on PalTalk, where I often tend to be at these times. It strikes me more and more as the days turn into weeks and the weeks to months that as people, we spend an insane amount of time punishing our minds thinking about something or other non stop. It also becomes clear to me that I wonder if perhaps I ponder everything just too much too often.
I question everything, I then question myself. Searching for answers to questions I have never heard asked. Searching for answers to questions nobody can ever answer. Ironically someone is playing Steve Vai's song 'For The Love Of God' right now in the chat room. This is the song which changed me into the deeply thought filled person I am today. It took me a few listens to truly understand the peice, but when I heard it and saw the accompanying video for it, it truly changed me as a person.
Maybe it's just my age, maybe my upbringing from wisdom instilled parents, maybe modern society or maybe the people I chat to. But everything in the world can seem so terrible. And yet... without wanting to be cynical on a ludicrous level, as young people my age can tend to be, I am aware of so much beauty in this world. There is so much joy to be found. but because mankind cannot trust itself or eachother, many of us are destined to never even be aware of said beauty. We spend so much time filled with hate and rage, forgetting to remember just what a blessing life is. And what a beautiful planet we ave been gifted by the glory of science and space.
It's naive of me to believe that everyone is good deep down. I used to think that was true, yet sadly I have been proven wrong time and time again. We kill eachother in increasingly brutal and horiffic ways. We torture eachother mentally and physically. We put all our efforts into a single cause only to fall and crumble under the weight of it all.
Being Human is a blessed curse. We are gifted the opportunity to embrace our natural surroundings and eachother in a way that no other creature we know of on this planet is quite able to do. Yet we would rather destroy or own every single thing we see, as if it be our birthright to do so ?...
Gifted with a huge brain capable of complex emotions, we seem to prefer not to use it by majority. Why is that ?. Think of how wonderful thing's could truly be if only people just... gave it a go. Stopped being ignorant and rude. Started to say hello to passers by on the street, as opposed to giving them a cold glance or not even look at all. Head down, marching onwards as if nobody else exists in the cruel, cold cowardly existance they sheild themselves in.
So many questions to be answered... and many of them come back to one thing. Mankind needs to grow up. We need a mental revolution of some description. We are close to the begginning... all these recent worldwide incidents, people blowing themselves up because they think they are righteuous and we are evil. Problem is... theres two sides to every story. And frankly... evangelical types are just as bad as muslim/islamic extremists. Who is really right and who is really wrong ?. Will we only find out when everyone is dead ?...
It solves nothing, but causes everything. The media putting us in panic stations so they can control us. We need to learn to think for ourselves. To make up our own damn minds for once. Not just bright individuals this time, but as a global populous. Maybe we can learn more that way. Teach ourselves what is right. Maybe after that we'll all wake up from this increasingly violent and disturbing nightmare.
The most potent message that comes to mind is simple and perhaps somewhat naive... but it is potent nonetheless...
Be Excellent To Eachother...
Cheers

Being HumanNice post Danny!..Very humble..If my experience in life has taught me anything, it is to understand that how I feel about the negativity in the world is normal, and out of my control..How I react to it however, is within my control..No matter what I say or do, there will always be hatred, violence, bloodshed, negativity, and people constantly trying to get over, and covet whatever they can get their hands on for themselves, and to hell with everybody else..To divorce ones self from knee jerk human nature is to deliberately, and courageously walk the road less traveled..I cannot change society, but I can change myself..The one thing that has not changed since the beginning of time, is human nature..The events are different, but the underlying motives are the same..Serenity is a frame of mind, that only can be acheived when we let go of inner turmoil, caused by the effects of the actions of ourselves, and the actions of others..Living in peace is an inside job, as well as a personal journey that I walk alone on the path to understanding and happiness
Do something nice for someone, and if they find out, it doesnt count |

Lovely comment mate. The words are ringing loud and clear in my ears. Well said indeed. Doesn't get much more thoughtfully profound than that really. So true as well, it seems greed has imprisioned us all, so to me, anyone brave enough to throw of those shackles and embrace a more humble stance or position in life deserves muchos kudos and respectos lol.
Wouldn't you say man ?. |

Awww! And awe. Very thoughtful. Some people crave enlightenment and hope in a cruel, unkind world. Some just exist. I prefer to seek and to hope. *hugs*

Yeah Teri, it's certainly the wisest choice I'd imagine. Seeking some sort of knowledge, creativity and happiness in life. It's certainly better than just existing. Right on Sister
