Millions tuned in last night to watch a flamboyantly decorated war hero thrice wounded by your catty remarks give an impassioned speech about the trials and tribulations of being a closeted homosexual serving under Bush's barbaric "Don't-Ask-Don-t Tell policy". He was just about to launch into a long, lingering lament on how impossible it is to find a decent nail salon these days when he was rudely interrupted by what appeared to be a GOP presidential debate.

"Why do you think that American men and women in uniform are not professional enough to cater to my needs,” retired Brigadier General Keith H. Kerr pondered rhetorically, when Anderson Cooper and eight Republican stooges burst into the studio and attempted to drown him out by debating each other on a variety of issues that had nothing to do with the Colonel at all.

The Homophobe Party has always been known for its hatred of the GLBTH Community, but I've never before seen them flaunt their bigotry in front of millions of witnesses. And hogging the Admiral's airtime that way just to make some sort of selfish political statement!

It was quite unprofessional, if you ask me.

The speech should not have been interrupted once they allowed it.

I personally do not agree with homosexuality coming out of the closet for the military. This is based upon personal experience.

We were a small group in a compound in a foreign country. We were assigned apartments which we shared with a co-worker. There was stress involved in the living conditions. We had made some potato whiskey and watching a video of a new Star Trek movie in the apartment.

I had passed out and woke up when this guy unzipped me. I was pissed, I do not like being touched unless it is a she and then wonder about STD's. We had a discussion and I found out he was "bi", a bunch of emotional baggage which was fine by me but he had betrayed my trust. He was not a bad person, but in that situation, under those circumstances I could not trust him. In tight groups under hostile circumstances one does not want to have to deal with emotional baggage, or being groped because of insecurities.

Then the problem wasn't his sexual orientation, but a more basic principle of lacking respect for his fellow soldier. Most gays would keep to the same "hands off" courtesy as most heterosexuals.

I agree but I would not want to be debating this in a foxhole where emotions can get high. The same goes with co-military (men & women), in that situation the differences stand out, the man recognizes a woman and vice versa so barriers are there or not. Imagine periodically being shot at in a foxhole talking about "home" or "fun" with your buddy and then .......

Eh, just relaying my experience and concern.....

Seriously! If you're in a firefight I'm sure sex will be THE last thing on his mind. That's why that was always a bullshit argument. There's gay and there's fuckin-out-of-it-beyond-the-pale-suicidal.

Now I get the sex seperation in certain jobs like submariners, where they're locked into a rubber coated steel can for sixty five days, but c'mon. Be real here.

If that's the worst they do compared to all the vile shit your party pulled [and continues to pull] then this country's bound to get better and better. No, luckily I was a peace time Marine, back when we lived in barracks....

My experience with this type of situation was in the private sector living in a Saudi compound for a couple of years. Apparently "loneliness" and "isolation" gets to some people. I did not care for being blindsided by this guy - especially while intoxicated by some homemade whiskey. I am so far away from touchy feely that it takes a lot for me to shake hands - he should have known that.

I moved out and was upset for about a week....

......The stress that we were under there was significantly lower than a combat situation would be. Maybe combat would be too much stress for "relations" however being stationed in remote areas in close proximity would be similar to my experience.

With a woman (different sex) one can modify their behavior because they are a recognized quantity. With same sex relations one may be "blindsided" in less than favorable circumstances.

Of course it can be argued that if I had known an agreement made, such as my moving out. This would because if it was such an issue that he had to announce it then, like cohabiting with a woman, it would not be optimal in such an environment....
