Far above the Moon

And there's nothing I can do."

I had a boating accident in 1996..July 27 to be exact, where my boat was taking on water and rolled over and sank..and just before I abandoned ship, I thought to myself.."So this is how it all ends"..Alot of thoughts go through your head in a short time..You think of family..my daughter, my girlfriend at the time, and I really felt strongly that I wasnt ready to go, that I had so much more living to do..But this is a bit different than the question that this thread asks, in that, I had a chance for survival, whereas being stranded out in space is final..I would in that case probably go through alot of the same mental and emotional gymnastics, go through numerous scenarios in my mind..and then hopefully accept my fate, and hope its over soon
Strangely, this is where my thinking was going. That, assuming no suicide among at least the last person left, their thoughts would wander toward family and possibility had not the end come.

So it occurred to me that were I the last I'd begin recording reports to anyone and no one, laying down the ground work of my own experiences as a human being and- hopefully, give a context for how and why Homo sapiens failed and went extinct in the end. By telling my story I would be telling the story of the whole species for whomever would eventually find it.

I figured as a final act I'd post a sign over whatever monitor or workstation I might die at. The sign would read:

and fireball into the void.

I'm pretty sure he just said an ape would be better than Cheney.

As to the answer to this....I would return home as planed. Everyone may be dead but that doesn't mean I have to die. I would also not really believe everyone on earth is dead just because some low level mouth piece for Nasa tells me so. No, I would return to earth and pick up the peices. It may be what fate was looking for to begin with.

Now if you write this as a story and sell it.....I want residuals!

I have a total crush on Craig Charles.

That is a kissable man

Let's put it this way, what you're told from the last transmission leaves no doubt that all human life certainly, and very likely all life on Earth is gone, and the surface is rendered uninhabitable. Think of it as similar to the Kobiashi Maru test from Star Tweak.

Perhaps it should read "Thank god I got away!"

I'd have to pull out my ultrasound machine and see if the phrase "it's what is on the inside that counts" holds true.

The visitors welcome thing would be the coolest ending of a novel, don't you think?

It certainly would be an ironic ending (considering the species ended in self-destruction).
