Welcome to Mountainsmiths
And so spring has ended. All seven of us are still alive. I (FP) am the mason. I build a whole bunch of stuff out of rock, or at least I would if my commands were not to build doors every goddamn day. I was ecstatic when I got to make cabinets for everyone simply because it wasn't another fucking door. Other than building stuff with the myriad rocks I find (mining tends to accumulate them pretty quickly), I don't really do much of anything else around here. Of course my days are lived out at my workshop, so it is not like I am slacking off or anything.
Then there is Zimmy, our planter. He is in charge of the farming stuff. Fine by me, I hate getting my hands dirty. Interesting story, on our way here to what we have called Mountainsmiths, the group decided that we needed a leader. Zimmy suggested that we choose by going in reverse alphabetical order; it seemed like a good idea. Imagine our surprise when Zimmy wins. We are still a bit baffled how that happened. Then there is Teri, our wood...person. She does pretty much anything that involves wood (except for that one thing). She cuts trees down, makes beds (it turns out that people don't much like the idea of stone beds) and barrels, burns wood to make ash, and she even makes potash from the ash. (We use that stuff as fertilizer.) She is pretty busy, but at least she gets to move around. Then there is Malkavian, our mechanist. He makes levers and has them do cool things, like the floodgate system for irrigating the field. He even built us a drawbridge for the river! Still, he doesn't do much. There doesn't seem to be that much of a demand for his skills currently. There are rumors that Zimmy is going to tell him to start fishing. I have seen quite a few trout in that river. Then there is Ms Heart and DannyBoy, our two miners. Ms Heart cuts through the stone like a hot knife though butter. DannyBoy is less skilled, but I hear he is improving. Those two are responsible for everything we have. Without them, we wouldn't have our farm (Well, I suppose we could farm on the surface, but what self-respecting dwarf would do that?), our workshops would be on the outside vulnerable to the elements, and we would still be sleeping where ever we got tired rather than in rooms! I have also heard that they just struck Banded Agate. I don't know what that is, but I hope it is pretty. And finally there is Chrisbb, our herbalist. He has been helping Zimmy with the farm. Every now and then he goes to the surface to pick flowers. OK, he says he gathers edible plants, but I pretty sure that is a lie. I can't be too mean to him though; he brews drinks. A dry dwarf is an unhappy dwarf. As long as he makes drinks, he will be my favorite person here. There is not much else to say. Spring passed quickly, but everything seems to be working well. This place is off to a good start. Crap! I just checked the list Zimmy sent me. More doors. |

Damn Zimmy, had I not put so many rolling laughs in there I would have beat your time posting it. You read my mind.

Lesser skilled is it, perchance a change of employ would suit one's wide array of more potent talents better than merely doing what one currently does. Perhaps I can put my improving skills though, to better use. Crafting dungeons and cells for those among us who dare to differ from the norm. Who dare to speak out against us. Yes... yes I like that.
What say you, Zimmy. My most humble and gracious of leaders. Last edited by DannyBoy; 11-25-2007 at 12:34 PM. |
