Late Age Man and their ally Atlantis, struck Midgard simultaneously, shocking him with Man's sneak attack; the war was off to a good start. Man's large primary army lead by the god of Man, Jerack, a red dragon, and containing several Magistars Arcane, which are LA Man's most powerful mages, marched across the mountains toward the Utgard capital now under the control of the vile Midgard.

A fairly large battle broke out near the capital. Midgard's fierce skinshifters (lightly armored infantry that change into werewolves when wounded) went toe-to-toe with Man's spearmen (fodder), tower guards (skilled heavy infantry armed with broadswords and crossbows), defenders (elite tower guards), tower knights (elite heavy cavalry), and longbowmen (kickass archers). The battle was incredibly close; with all of the infantry and cavalry either killed or routed, the skinshifters were about to pounce on the hapless Magistars Arcane. The longbowmen put one too many arrows through the foul beasts though, and the skinshifters retreated. Man may have won the battle, but precious few of its troops remained. In the chaos, Jerack was killed. The nation mourned. Wagiobath, prophet of Jerack, ordered the priests of Man to get to work on summoning their beloved god back from whatever dark pit he had been thrown into so that he may see the fall of Midgard when he breathed fresh air again.

Man ordered its secondary army, which contained even more troops, to the front, but it would take months for them to arrive. Retreating what was left of the first army would have resulted in a complete loss of momentum, and the skinshifter ranks would have been easily replaced by then. The Utgard capital was simply to tempting of a target.

Man airdropped a large number of Magistars Arcane into the army's province via the spell cloud trapeze, and moved forward to lay siege to the capital's fort. Midgard thought that with so many skinshifters lying inside, any damage done to the fort by Man's small army could quickly be repaired. What Midgard didn't know was that a number of Magistars had been sneaking along with the primary army. These normal Magistars may not have been as magically powerful as their cousins, but they had several abilities that made them useful. As engineers, they got more catapults and trebuchets up and running, and as spies, they snuck into the fort and saw the exact composition of Midgard's forces inside. Thanks to the Magistars, the fort was taking a significant pounding.

The months slowly ticked by, and finally, just as their food stores were about to run out, the skinshifters poured out of the fort to attack their besiegers. A line of longbowmen sacrificed themselves to shield the Magistars Arcane from the vicious skinshifters. The mages formed a communion, and the communion masters cast blade wind over and over, throwing wave upon wave of spinning blades into the werewolves’ ranks. The skinshifters proved yet again that their bark was worse than their bite and ran. With the fort empty, it took little time to break down the gate and take control of the city.

Holding the capital would be the next step, for as soon as the green banner of Man was raised in Utgard, the largest army of skinshifters ever seen in the lands of Epotara appeared on the horizons. The siege began anew; except this time, Man was the defender. The Magistars proved their worth once more, by applying their engineering skills to repair any damage done to the fort. This situation had been anticipated, and more Magistars had been sent in from the homeland. They snuck into the fort and provided assistance. Midgard learned why one should never let the nation of Man into a fort: It can take forever to get them out. Despite Midgard's large army, they only did minor damage to the fort. Luckily for Man, the secondary army had finally moved through the mountains and was about to burst onto the scene.

As the army moved into the province, the troops and mages inside the fortified city left and joined up with the relieving force. Man had assembled its most fearsome fighting force to date. The army was large, contained many experienced soldiers, backed up by the mighty Magistars Arcane, and was lead by none other than the prophet Wagiobath. Midgard's army was formidable as well. Skinshifters were everywhere, and Midgard had finally brought a few mages with, including a Vanherse that carried a staff of storms. It cannot be underestimated just how dangerous skinshifters are. It was well known that a skinshifters could take out armies more than twice their size while taking few losses. It was only because of Midgard's lack of magic users and Man's Magistars Arcane that Man was able to do as well as it had up until this point. This was clearly going to be the final battle for the former Utgardian region. Whoever won would have huge momentum in their favor.

The battle was fierce. The entire right flank of defenders and tower guards was killed as were almost all of the tower knights, but not before they showed incredible skill and incredible bravery. The longbowmen behind the forward right flank proved that experienced and healthy bowmen could successfully take the sword to a group of exhausted and badly hurt werewolves.

Ironically, it was the storm generated by the staff of storms that sealed Midgard's fate. The storm made many of the archers’ arrows misfire and made aiming with spells and arrows difficult. One of Midgard's mages even cast mist in the battle, further hampering accuracy and halving the range of spells and arrows. Normally the Magistars Arcane would have formed a communion and cast blade wind but not this time. With the storm available, they instead summoned power from the storm and then proceeded to unleash dozens of thunderstrike spells on the battlefield. The electrical attacks destroyed anything where they struck. Man won the battle, and the majority of its forces remained intact.

Of particular note were two things. Several normal Magistars were brought into battle to cast orb lightning. Skinshifters were practically on top on one of them. The Magistar just kept dutifully casting orb lightning. Several of the Magistars Arcane saw what was happening and dropped about half a dozen thunderstikes in the area. With the horrible accuracy of spells on the battlefield, the Magistar was beyond lucky in not getting hit. The skinshifter squad routed just as they were about to sink their teeth into the mage.

Two tower knights, after trading a few blows with werewolves, surprisingly managed to outflank the left skinshifter squad and got into Midgard's backfield. They made a beeline for the Galderman that summoned up the mist on the field and easily struck him down. The mist immediately evaporated. The pair of knights continued to run down mages throughout the battle, but several Vanherses kept them tied up for awhile.

To this day, the skinshifters and mages who survived that battle are still being hunted down.

Midgard no longer controls the Utgardian region. The war, as far as Man's role is concerned, is over. The valiant soldiers and commanders who died fighting the Midgard menace will forever be remember. Many who survived will forever have the wounds to remind them of the battles.

One can not underestimate Atlantis's influence in how things turned out. The Atlantians sailed across the seas on their icebergs and came up from the depths, raiding Midgard's large coastline. Midgard even launched an attack against Atlantis's capital. Being skilled the skilled shipwrights that they are, the Vanherses of course sailed to the capital, so when Atlantis defeated the army, the skinshifters could not get back on the boats fast enough and were slaughtered to a man. It was the combined efforts of both nations that brought Midgard down: Atlantis's small but numerous armies striking at Midgard's coast, and Man's focused assault of the Utgardian region.

Midgard still stirs; a wayward army of beaten and bruised skinshifters continue to roam the lands with Man's army hot on their heels, and Midgard still controls its capital. Atlantis is currently laying siege to it though, so it will only be a matter of time until they are officially no more. Midgard used to be the most powerful empire in existence; soon they will be nothing more than a whisper in the wind.
