Question Freezer smell ...arghh!!

Does anyone have any tips on on how to avoid having frozen veggies (broccoli in particular) get that freezer/stale smell? Even when the veggies are cooked they have that freezer taste which is gross. I keep a box of baking soda and most of the other foods in there are frozen bought foods (like other frozen veggies, french fries, etc). I do have a couple of containers of leftovers likes spaghetti sauce or something...but I don't think that could be it...could it?

I store the frozen bought items in their original packaging (i.e. veggies in plastic bags). I guess I could put them in ziploc freezer bags but I don't know if I can find ones big enough to fit it.

Leftovers that I freezer are in plastic containers...I guess I should clean out my freezer...I have no room in there....I guess that's what I'll be doing tonight. :S

The air from your freezer is what is pumped into your frig. to keep it cold.

So, maybe your frig. holds the culprit.

the plastic containers should be fine, just make sure they're rated for the freezer otherwise they're not moisture nor vapour resistant and the food can cause and absorb odors...

beyond that, yes, clean out your freezer, you need room for the gin (or at least the ice cube trays)

There's nothing really in my fridge that would stink it up and I have a box of baking soda in there too. Typically, I have condiments, veggies and yogurt ...also it doesn't smell when I open the fridge.

PC, I don't think the containers are freezer containers though...that might be it. I need to toss that stuff out anyways.

I found the culprit! Ok the freezer didn't smell. Neither did the food. It was the containers!! I think the freezer burn and the type of plastic mixed together produced this yucky smell. Even after washing the plastic the containers, the smell remains. None of the food actually smelled.

Also, it's always the broccoli that smells and taste bad...none of the other veggies which have been in there longer. The other food that takes on the smell and taste is the frozen battered fish.

I tossed out a of stuff...I also think food in the freezer door isn't a good idea b/c it's not as cold. I also increased the cold temperature in the freezer.

I'll monitor the smell now.

Thanks everyone!

Gin and ice cube storage space is the ground most hallowed.
