What does a high-yield savings give? 5%?
lol...no, i'm not that old

and usually, yes, but the bank i work for gives employees a bump on what the current rate is, so it's better to put it there than in my ira, especially with the volatility of the market recently...

scratch cards would be better, but if you do that, make sure you purchase them all from the same roll/game, your odds significantly increase and you'd more than likely end up doubling your money...i buy a bunch of them for teller contests and have found they win more money when i get a strip of the same game than when i mix it up...

Of course, there are plenty of people that can earn upwards of 14-20 something % by simply paying down one of those credit card balances.

And, the hidden plus is pissing off the pres. cause you didn't spend it on the oil bill.

I have recently made a hobby out of asking what the most patriotic things we can do with this money would be, without getting any answers.

I, too, have a few friends who just want the money and don't care what it ultimately costs.

When it came time to vote on our contracts, the ONLY thing many members cared about was the $300 signing bonus; people can be bought very cheaply.

Even on these boards, I've asked where to put this money to do the most good for our country. I can't see how buying something made in China helps us. I can't see how putting it in the bank helps our country.

Should we just do a lot of eating out?

The most patriotic thing you can do with your tax rebate is to send it to the DNC.

i have a short term goal i intend on reaching by the summer...under other circumstances, you'd be correct, i still have plenty of time until i retire so putting it there would certainly give me a larger yield in the long run, plus the tax advantage...but i've had my eye on a sweet little vacation for a couple of months, and pc needs some quality r & r
