Why are people proud of their ancestry?
In that our ancestors, whomever they are, are not something we chose, why are so many people concerned about who their anscestors were?
Should we not be more concerned with what kind of ancestors WE will be?

It's the reason we walk around talking about how America is number one. WE didn't so shit to make it so but it's real easy to live off of the deeds of others. That way we can fuck off and do whatever we want all the while talking about how great we are because of what others have done. Duh.

deep...very deep
While it isn't politically correct to stereotype one based on ancestry, there is no getting around the fact that these stereotypes...to an extent...hold water.
My Irish uncles were all...heavy drinkers...NYC cops. At some point, we all go through a phase where we try understand "who we are" Understanding, or studying our ancestry can give us great insight as to who we will eventually grow to be. Many ethnic customs are worth passing down from generation to generation. Likewise, many would be better buried forever. Pride seems to be subject to definition in a few threads this morning, but there are many who have ancestors who forged new frontiers...whether mentally or physically. Study your roots, and then look in the mirror. You might be surprised at what you find.

We are animals, there is still a tribal instinct. Having said that, I disagree with those who use instincts as excuses to exploit or demean others...which supports your point about becoming better "ancestors"
