Would you drive 90 miles on ice? Am I a coward?

I have been stuck 90 miles from home for two days now.
endless checks on the road conditions are tiresome. They haven't changed, in fact, only have become worse. At first, I was just happy to have a decent hotel to stay in, now, well....I find my mood deteriorating. I have been away from home for 5 days now, by myself and not by choice. I miss my dogs and my home.

While I realize this small ordeal is not a serious matter, I am frustrated...and bored.

I am about ready to mount my Honda and drive 15 miles on pure ice for 90 miles...despite being moderately afraid.
The problem is...my mother objects, and well, I still listen to my mother, even at the age of 38.

Normally, I would never consider such a drive, but the feeling of being stuck, defeated and lonely is wearing me out.

What would you do? Drive?
Wait it out?

Driving in snow is one thing and can be stressful, but ice is another issue. If you can out and start driving in it you will probably regret it. Where is all this ice?

Sorry - I ride a motorcyle, so when I read "mount"....Aren't the roads plowed out by you? I've only been to Iowa once, but the roads were smooth and clean.

central Iowa.

I actually did a test run yesterday, there were 10 people still in their cars..(for a 10 mile stretch) with state patrol helping them out.

I literally drove 15 miles an hour in the middle of the highway and said
F*ck this, and turned around.

Even thought there is no precipitation currently...the wind keeps blowing snow back on to the interstate turning it into an ice skating rink...20-30 below wind gusts.

I am very aware that I am whining...I am just homesick..wanted to vent.

They are trying to plow..but the wind gusts blow the snow right back on the interstate..when it is this cold (10-30 below with wind) the roads just turn to pure ice.

Well.... 15 mph will put you home in 6 hours.

Doesn't sound like very much fun though. I guess when you want to be home more than you dread driving 6 hours on ice you'll just go.

It's a bright and shiny day here in Illinois, if it's like that where you are then get an early start you'll be home for a late lunch.

that's the dilemma..sit here and whine or go tough it out.

I should be honest, I will not make the drive at this point, towing services are prohibited. If I get stuck...a trooper would pick me up..but the car would remain for god knows how long.

it's utterly stupid to attempt it...
I don't want to sit it my car for an hour waiting for a trooper, it's 20 below right now...lol, talk about being bored.

My family was throwing me a birthday party tonight...we can reschedule next week.
