Eating Animals - Right or Wrong?

Since animals all have souls/spirits (the conscious mind, as we call it), isn't killing them the same as killing us? It isn't technically cannibalism, but we are killing a creature with a soul so we can eat its body. The weird thing is, we don't need to kill or eat animals - we are omnivores.

I'm thinking, we shouldn't eat animals. This isn't so bad though... plant-life provides all the nutrients we need, and plenty of flava'. I'm not talking vegetarianism or veganism, i'm talking... grains (rice, bread, pasta), vegetables and fruits (tomatoes, onions, garlic, potatoes, corn, salsa), and spices (salt, pepper, basil, oregano). There are tons of great, nutritious dishes made without animals (cheese, garlic, tomato sauce pizza; pasta alfredo with some bread on the side; any number of rice dishes; habanero soup; french fry po-boys; the list goes on and on, really).

I personally would be fine only eating plant-life (or the rough equivalent, such as chocolate milk/cheese). We know plants do not possess the spirit/soul/conscious mind thing, so we do not need to restrict ourselves or feel bad about killing/eating plant-life. If restaurants and stores started selling 'no-animal' dishes, I would find myself only buying 'no-animal' foods.

But what about you? Could you be happy without eating animal bodies?

I probably would have more sympathy for Gods creatures but I was raised Catholic. I learned that if you put your hands together and say a few words before you eat one it's all good.

And seriously? Steak is delicious!

On many issues, I'm left of center, but I think this is an area where I'm right of center. I like my BBQ.

I am ok with the idea of eating a non-meat diet, until I'm lost in the forest and hungry. Then I will kill and eat every fuzzy thing I can find.

Even though I eat meat, I understand your point to a large degree.

I wouldn't try to force people not to eat meat, but I do wish stricter guidlines were enforced on slaughter houses.

There's alot of cruelty that could be prevented with improvements in the slaughter methods.

I think we should eat people. There are a lot of them around, and most are easy to catch.

My happiness would not depend on eating animals (or not)

Humans are Carnivores. So are most other life forms on this Earth. It's a simbiotic existance on this planet, everything lives off everything else.

That's Nature.

I fully agree with this!

I saw that video with the cows on the "Today" Show, and it made me angry.
