My nephew's not going to Iraq! Mysteriously, he's suddenly being stationed in Germany for 2 yrs. Not so mysteriously me thinks, my brother, his Dad's a recently retired USAF Col. who wasn't too thrilled when he enlisted.

I don't know how he feels about it - I know he expected to go, and I'm wildly speculating that my brother had anything to do with his not going, but I don't know how any of us would have been able to breath if he'd gone. There aren't words to express my admiration for those men and women who've served over there, but I don't know how their family's get through it fear and panic.

i have a new nephew

was born yesterday, can't wait until i can go home and give him a huge hug (made him a "build-a-bear" for christmas

)...no name yet, perhaps william (after my stepfather, who passed in december) river...my nieces (8 & 12) wanted to name him "river" after some girlie cartoon show they watch, i teased them at christmas that they just wanted to be able to out his name to future girlfriends, they nodded knowingly
