Mal needs help - Chicken or egg?

No, not that type f help, it's far too late for that.

OK, need some advice here. I wanna make pancakes and found a box of eggs in the fridge. Now, pancakes are the only food i use eggs for (haven't made omelet in ages), and the last time i've made pancakes it was a year ago. Thus eggs must be also.

All i know is that they haven't hatched yet and look ok. I mean, i'm pretty good with poultry, i've eaten a 3 month old chicken once a couple of years ago and was alright... Well, as alright as you've known me, which probably explains a lot, but anyway. But 3 months is vintage; a year is antique... They are probably collecting their pension plans by now.

So i need some veterinarian input - will i start squawking? What should i check for? Feathers?

I post this in the corner bar because i also intend to consume vast quantities of alcohol. Chix and booze, what a party.

If the eggs have gone off, don't use them. Don't even crack them open. The smell will linger around the house for days.

Thanks... They don't smell, but i haven't cracked them open yet. Should i do it outside? Throw it into my neighbor's apartment and listen how loud they'll scream?

You could save them for somebody who really makes you angry. I made the mistake of cracking open some rotten eggs in college, and these were only a little over the expiration date. I one right from the shell into the frying pan. The stench was awful, and my flatmate was very cross.

Well, next Halloween it is then. Unless they hatch and walk away by then. I burned fish a few weeks ago, my entire apartment and everything in it smelled like it. Luckily i was on night shift, so it was only operators who were making fun of me.

Only a little over though? Weird... i recall eating eggs quite a bit past... I thought as long as you kept them cold, it'd be ok.

Well, i found the sell by date. 6/29/2007. That's better than i thought.

eggs are cheap...take a bike ride, and get some new ones.

I've seen eggs dehydrate in the shells. The yolk is intact, but the albumen seems to be gone. Spin the egg. If it is still liquid inside, it won't readily spin...rather start to spin, and then slow down.

If it is solid inside, it will spin easily.

Edit...I read something about not using old pancake batter...I believe a certain mold grows....looks like you're going to the store, or it's straight alcohol for dinner...again.

Cool. This will keep me amused for hours.

I don't use mixes... make my own. But toxic mold sounds tempting...

I'm super picky about raw eggs. I put them in a bowl of cool water before using. If they float they go in the trash. (But that's eggs maybe a month over..9 months? No way.)
