...or, How I wasted my WHOLE morning.

Got a new digital video camera this weekend, (a write off because I NEED it to capture video for my sculpture website, right?), and this morning was the first time the Sun made an appearance, so I'm out in the backyard so wrapped up in using the camera I didn't even notice the deer walk up to me. I look up and he's standing not 15 ft away staring at me.

This never happened before.

Now you need to turn the camera to yourself and talk about the experience. Talk about how cool it was that the deer trusted you so much that it didn't fear walking right up to you. Then finish the video by saying, "it was beautiful........and delicious"

Nice job! Cool sculptures too! Did you know that all deaths that have been attributed to wild animals in Yosemite were from deer? They can easily spill your guts with a single kick. Have a nice day!

Sculptures on video? Like Barney's cremaster/drawing restraint stuff? As much as I can't stand the guy, I love the idea of immortalizing installations to the moving image. You should get a DOP converter and some 35mm lenses so you can do focus pull or even flirt with some macro photography stuff.

Not all deaths but you are very close. The number one animal attack with fatalities in the park are from deer.

There have been rock slides and climbing accidents as well as tourist who just get lost as well as a couple of murders (Cary Stayner) but deer are very dangerous!

Another Snow White moment in northern Illinois this morning.

About four days ago a pitch black cat has been hanging around our back yard. He seems half way between tame and ferrel. He sits and watches but won't let me get within 15 ft or so. He doesn't run far, just keeps his distance then sits down and stares some more.

We've been feeding it of course, giving it some food we have that our cats can't eat because they're such porkers, they're both on a diet. Yesterday after eating the black one stalked a squirrel, I had to bring our kitties to the window to see. They claim that squirrels aren't stalkable.

So this morning I'm sitting having coffee watching new black kitty on the patio having breakfast, when he goes into stalk mode, looking at something out of my field of vision.

I ask my wife at the window, "He sees something. What's out there?" Expecting squirrel, robin, dove, chipmunk, one of the usual forms of wildlife for our back yard. She says:


"Ducks"


Mallard Ducks. Walking through the yard.
This never happens either.
